Give A Kid A Coat Campaign Heads Into Final Week With Call for Strong Community Push
January 30, 2026 – As the 2026 Give A Kid A Coat campaign enters its final week, organizers are encouraging the community to help finish strong after winter weather this past week slowed coat donations across the Triad.
Snow and icy conditions this past week have limited travel and drop-offs at collection sites, impacting the number of coats donated during what is typically one of the campaign’s most active periods. With additional winter weather forecast for central North Carolina this weekend and cold temperatures continuing, the need for warm coats remains significant for children and families throughout the community.
“This year’s snow and ice make the need for coats acute for many families in our community. The generosity of the Triad community is unmatched. Whether it be volunteering or donating, Triad residents are outstanding partners in alleviating suffering and meeting the needs of our most vulnerable populations.”
Major Ed Binnix, The Salvation Army
Local weather experts note that while winter storms can disrupt daily routines, the cold conditions they bring often linger well beyond the snow itself. During periods of snow, ice, and sustained cold, access to a warm coat can make a meaningful difference for children heading to school and families navigating daily life. Forecasts also indicate the potential for more wintry conditions across central North Carolina this weekend, underscoring the importance of community donations during the coldest weeks of the season.
“Even when winter weather passes, cold conditions can still linger across the Carolinas. For children heading to school and families going about their daily routines, a warm coat can make a real difference during the winter months. Community efforts like Give A Kid A Coat help ensure kids have the protection they need to stay warm, healthy, and ready to learn.”
Van Denton, Chief Meteorologist of FOX8 WGHP
With just one week remaining, campaign partners are encouraging the community to help make the final days count by checking closets for new or gently used coats that are no longer being worn — especially children’s coats that may have been outgrown and could bring warmth to another child in need. The Give A Kid A Coat campaign will continue through Saturday, February 7, with donations accepted at any A Cleaner World location. All donated coats are professionally cleaned and repaired as needed before being distributed by The Salvation Army to individuals and families across the community.
Monetary donations to help The Salvation Army purchase new coats are also welcome and may be made online at: https://give.salvationarmycarolinas.org/campaign/735133/donate
