Spring Cleaning Your Bedroom
You probably don’t give it much thought, but I’d be willing to bet that of all the rooms in our homes, we spend the most time in our bedrooms. Think about it – it’s the last room you see before you fall asleep, and the first room you see when you wake up. Most of us sleep about 1/3 of each day……. typically, in our bedrooms. If you’re like me, you either read or watch television while lying down or sitting in a comfy chair in the corner of……your bedroom before going to sleep. Then, of course, there’s getting ready in the morning with your bathroom right off……your bedroom.
But how much time do you devote to caring for your bedroom? I’ll admit that I am good at somethings and not so good at others. So, could your bedroom use a good spring cleaning? If the answer is yes, then here’s our recommended spring cleaning tips:
- Freshen up your closet. Spring is a good time to do this, especially because you’ll be storing away your winter clothes to make room for spring and summer clothes. As you pack your winter things away until next fall, make certain everything has been either dry cleaned or washed. If you don’t those items could fall prey to insects and other pest that might cause irreparable damage. Also take the opportunity to mend garments and resew buttons before packing away. Now’s a good time to donate anything you didn’t wear during this past fall/winter season. Properly pack everything else away. While your closet is empty, knock down any cobwebs, dust or wipe down shelves, and vacuum, especially around the baseboards and corners. Now you are ready to place this season’s clothes inside.
- Provide care for your bedding. If you like switching your bedding with the change of the season, be sure to have the duvets, bedspreads, comforters, and blankets you are currently using dry cleaned or laundered before storing away. If you don’t plan on switching out bedding, and it’s been a year or more since it was cleaned, it’s time to have it cleaned. While your bedding is out, remove mattress covers and wash. Also, wash all blankets and your pillows. Finally, flip and rotate your mattress before putting all the bedding back on.
- Clean your windows and drapes. Dust and allergens love to attach themselves to your curtains and drapes. At the very least, shake them out and hang them outside to freshen them up a bit. If it’s been a while since your drapes were cleaned, you may want to consider having A Cleaner World do them for you. For more information on how to care for drapes and curtains, click here. While your drapes are down, go ahead and clean your windows on the inside and outside as well. After all, who wants to put clean drapes back up on a dirty window?
