Caring for Formal Wear
When Matt and I first got married, we lived in a garage apartment on an estate in Irving Park in Greensboro. The owner of the home owned the company that Matt worked for, and she treated us like part of the family, so when a formal event, gala, or ball came around, we received an invitation. Oh, how I loved attending those events because they were filled with delicious food, bubbly champagne, and lots of dancing. But the biggest reason I loved them was because during the five years we lived there, I accumulated several lovely cocktail dresses and ball gowns for black tie events.
The thing about formal wear is that it can be expensive, so you want to be certain you provide proper care so that you can get more than one wearing out of it. After each formal event, I always trusted A Cleaner World to remove any stains, spills, or perspiration; clean and finish; and prep my dress so that it would be ready for me should another fantastic occasion arise. Garments like tuxedos, ball gowns, cocktail dresses, bridesmaid dresses, formal dresses, evening dresses, gala dresses, and prom gowns may require a unique dry-cleaning process, professional wet cleaning, and even delicate hand cleaning. A Cleaner World’s experienced staff evaluates every garment that comes in to ensure that the proper cleaning method is used……..but caring for your formal wear doesn’t end when you pick up your gown or tux. Here are a few things you can do at home to ensure that you’ll be ready for your next big event:
- Never put formal wear away without having it professionally cleaned first.
- Store your formal wear in a cool, dry place.
- Be certain to hang the garment on the proper hanger.
- If the garment will be in storage for a while, cover it with a clean white sheet or cloth or place it inside a garment bag.
We are here to help, so please feel free to call or stop by one of our locations if you have questions about caring for your formal wear.
