A Cleaner World Blog

The older I get, the more clutter bothers me, and I find I get so much pleasure out of purging and donating.  Is there anything scientific information out there that could explain my pleasure?  I decided to do some research, and I found several articles that could explain my decluttering euphoria.

  1. Decluttering and donating benefits your health - When your environment doesn’t have lots of clutter, it makes everyday living easier.  Things are easier to find, and your space is more comfortable, which can lower anxiety in some folks.
  2. Deluttering and donating are good for the environment - Did you know that the average American throws away around 68 pounds of clothing and textiles each year?  By simply donating your previously worn clothing to local charities, you reduce the amount thrown in the landfill each year.  This is especially important because many synthetic fibers don’t decompose.
  3. Decluttering benefits others - Just because you no longer want or need an item doesn’t mean that someone else doesn’t have a use for it.  This is important all year long, but it’s especially important during a time of year when the weather is colder and holiday gift giving season is in full swing.  Those extra wool sweaters might provide some much-needed warmth to someone.  Outgrown toys could bring lots of joy to a youngster.  A pair of lamps that no longer match your décor might be just the thing that a young family has been saving up for.

A Cleaner World recognizes the benefits of sharing previously owned treasures with others, and that’s why we are a drop off point for The Salvation Army of the Triad.  Just drop off your no longer needed items at any Triad A Cleaner World location, and we will send the donations to The Salvation Army Family Stores to resell where the profits made from those sales directly fund Salvation Army programs.  Sounds like an all-around great plan to me.
